question on cold grease

My AMI H-200 is in an unheated room now about 48--55 degrees all the time. Once I thought the turntable was turning too slowly because the music sounded slightly distorted and figured the grease got cold. Is that possible? Do I need to heat the mech with a space heater before playing records? Thanks, Chris.

Hi Chris,
Most phono makers designed their equipment to run in any temp. a human could live in. There should be no "grease" associated with the turn-table--only oil, which does, with age, tend to become "sluggish", when cold, and collect "gunk". I would advise you to remove the turn table and use a "Q-tip" saturated with a non residue safety solvent to clean the operating surfaces of the turn table, and do the same to the idler wheel. After it's all been cleaned, oil the motor, idler wheel and turntable with 20 wt. ND motor oil. Ron Rich

Thanks Ron,
I'll try it as soon as my fingers thaw out!

Best lube on the planet - never "freezes" never dries out.
