1941 Rockola Deluxe

by vintagecar » Thu Nov 27, 2014 2:22 am

I recently purchased this 1941 Rockola (unsure of model- was told Deluxe). It was setup to play on quarters. It worked for awhile and then all of a sudden it just stopped. when it quit playing it started to have a loud hum. I narrowed that down to what appears to be some sort of actuator (in photo1 which pushes or pulls lever from gear wheel). When a coin is dropped in I get 3 or 4 clicks from the coin mechanism and nothing happens.

I can manually play one record at a time by disengaging the lever from the gear that is pictured. Once the record is done and the cycle finishes the lever locks back into the gear.

So I'm not sure if I have a coin mechanism issue or if that actuator is bad, or something else entirely?

Clean.
Oil.
Mechanism problems are easily rectified through the troubleshooting chart in the service manual.

Being entirely new to jukebox ownership but not shy to get elbow deep in one. Are there good sources for parts. And can someone help with verifying identity of this jukebox. Is it a 1941 Rockola?

Judging by the photo in the Always Jukin' reference book, it's a1940 "Master" model.
See "informational stickies" posted above for all parts/manual, suppliers. Ron Rich

Ron

The Always Juking' book shows it has 20 selections and plays 78 RPMs. Also shows value range between $350.00 and $3,200.00 or whatever the market will support!

It is 74 years old, just a few years older than you Ron, however, the picture he posted shows it still looks great

Much thanks guys!

I cleaned and lubricated around that gear and lever and that did the trick. Still has some quirks to work out such as a quarter will play anywhere between 1 and 7 records. Some of the push buttons work and others will not release after the record is played so it just loops that particular record. Does any of it really matter? Not that much...gives me something to tinker with.
Thank you for the correct identification and I will review the posted links/ stickies.

I love this jukebox! Time to find some room in the man cave!

Ronnie, I'd love to see a photo (preferably recent) of you, so's I know who the frick I'm talking to sometimes.
I *think* you've seen a pic of me, not that it matters much, and I'd be glad to send you one, but it's nice to share things like that, since the internet is so damn un-human & un-personal.
I'm just so Old School, ya know.
Besides, it's nice to put a face to a name, kind of a "human thing", ya know?

Hello Matt,

Welcome to the forum, yes your jukebox is definitely the 1940 Rock Ola Master.

I Guess you will have issues trying to get parts for it, but the mechanics involved will not be too difficult to have some parts made and you can have any coils or solenoids rewound.

Please update us on your progress.

Regards
Alan
