rockola 426 wont stop scanning after playing a record

by jpdapolito » Tue Sep 29, 2015 7:07 pm

i have a rockola grand prix ii,model 426 ,plays records selected fine and puts them back in the magazine but sometimes after doing this it will continue to scan and not stop at home position .if another selection is made it plays that selection fine but then will keep searching ,after replacing the record in the magazine .i cleaned the correct wiper blade for this and made sure its making good contact as it goes around still no help .one thing i have found is that if i tap on the arm just below the cancel coils or anywhere on the arm as it is going around it will stop at the home spot > are the cancel selenoids dirty and not fully releasing ,the pins are canceled after playing the proper record ,
thanks for any advice

Hi,
Do you have the Service Manual package--the schematic will show that circuit--
Why would you "clean" the slip rings?? If it were stopping where it shouldn't, yes--clean them !
In this case, you need to clean the area on that wiper blade track, that is insulated, as you do not want it to conduct there !
As for a pin not being reset, kinda doubt it--can happen--but very very, rare--just look at them--I suspect the "U shaped, copper spring" on the carry over switch on top of the selection drum has broken allowing the MicroSwitch to remain closed, after the final pin has been reset.

Hi
As Ron said check the wobble plate micro switch but also check the wire connections to the micro switch, if you look at it closely probably better from the back of the machine you can probably see whether switch is open or closed. This switch controls the play control relay and will keep running if its not opening and closing correctly

Hi: I had a 2 426's one had the home circuit in the slip rings. but the other had the older style home switch. look near the bottom of the selector ring on the read out side. if yours has it there you will see it protruding out. it might get out of adjustment or get just plain bent, especially if the mech has been out of it for any reason. also check the wires they too are prone to breakage. I would agree that if it not that style that cleaning the slip rings and contact fingers will get it to stop at the home spot. Mark

thanks for the advice .i took a good look at the microswitch on wobble plate ,it seems it would open sometimes but not quite open enough at others, everything seemed intact, wires looked good connections good,so i took a chance and slightly bent out the "stop" for the wobble plate lever that is pushed when the selenoid releases, and that did it (at least for now)),allows the switch to open completely and now no more endless searchng.
thanks for setting me on the right path
