Rockola 490 amp

by cg591 » Sun Jul 14, 2013 2:39 am

Hi all - I finally got my 1985 Rockola 490-1 to select and play. The sound is scratchy and distorted on the right channel though. Left sounds pretty clear. I swapped around speakers and believe the 4 speakers are good. I have recapped a few mono amps, but this is my first experience with a modern, stereo juke. Is recapping called for in these, or any other suggestions or specific things to check? Thanks for any help! Carl.

Hi
If its the same amp as the rockola 488 you could try swapping the connections for left and right on the preamp board and then on the driver boards for left and right, to determine if any of these are at fault. Previous problems i have any with the amps include problems with the tone control board and amp driver boards(left and right), for recapping all of the electrolytic caps will need to be replaced, its a bit of a pain but has to be done
