Seeburg SMC 1 short circuited ?

Hi,

If I switch my SMC 1 on after it has been off for more than a few hours, the mech will move very slowly, and the motor makes a humming sound like it is blocked, or trying to move both ways at the same time.

Switching to service mode, and fiddling a bit with scan and / or reject will loosen it up, and it will move free again and plays normal.

If I switch it off , and leave it off for more than a few hours it will do the same again. But if I switch it on again within an hour or 2, or so it will start normally ....

It already has Ron's new MCU, so that won't be the problem.

Anybody an idea where to look first ?

Hi Kenneth,
Thanks for buying the new Gen 2 MCU ! That problem is USUALLY a bad triac on the interface board (IFB) in the PCC . I would "shot-gun" it and change both motor run triacs, and associated diodes, as a first step. Which version IFB, is installed in your phono? Ron Rich

I am not really an electronics guy, so looks like i need to ask a friend. I have the complete parts manual and your guide though . So i'll look up the schematics and ask someone to do this for me .

You directly knew the source, so i guess you encountered these kind of problems before then . ?

Hi Kenneth,
I need to know what is marked on the (IFB) board on the inside of the PCC ?
Have you oiled the motor, and drive train with the proper oil ??

Thanks Ron, good to know i can send it for repair.

Ill check in the weekend, when i have daylight... Now i don't see much markings right now, except a sticker with SEEBEN on it. And when i tried to take the IFB out for a better look i touched something inside the PCC ....and It SHOCKED me...

It needs some time for all the current to die of i guess.
All is oiled completely new. Also the motor. But i used sewing machine oil........

Hi Kenneth,
If the phono is un-plugged, there should be no power anywhere to "shock" you-- The IFB is marked in small print, with a part #, and a "Rev A, B, or C" marking, somewhere on the exposed side. I need the "Rev" marking--
Sewing machine oil ?? IMHO, not correct-nor good. In most cases it is too light to protect the bearings, especially in that motor--20 wt. ND is what the factory specified. Ron Rich
