How many plays, on average

This is a question mainly for those who are or have been operators.

On average how many plays would a jukebox from the early 1960's have on it? I don't think there is any way to know exactly how many is on any particular machine (especially like mine which meter stopped at 5,300) but what is your best guess for a jukebox that old?

If someone asks about my AY160 "How many plays does it have on it"? I'd like to reply something like "No way to tell for sure but one this old probably have averaged XXXXX plays"

An arbritrary question I know... but I have no reference whether it would be 6,000 or 600,000.

Any guesstimates?

Ya know, there's SO many variables to consider with a question like that.

Decades of use - popularity of the establishment where a given machine was located.
And so forth.
It's of no importance, as long as the machine is serviced and runs properly.

Anybody asks me a question like that, I'd look at them funny.

When my partner and I operated Seeburgs, we used the total selections made meter, to keep service records. All seemed to "slip" at around 200k selections--We automatically replaced any that went 200k, with a new one, and so noted it on the service record. I made up some units to meter the money, in 5 cent increments, using different brands of meters. Seemed like they would slip at around $25k to,50 k---always carried two-three units in my truck--just in case--.
