Rock-Ola 474 Selection Issue

I have a Rock-Ola 474 which "almost" works.

The problem I have is, after the "search" sequence has engaged the correct pin, the arm on the outside of the selection drum should rotate to find that pin, but doesn't.

If the mechanism is in the correct "home" position, then the arm begins to move, but almost immediately stops. The reason the arm is stopping seems to be a power issue.

On the outside track, on the selection drum where the wipers make contact, there is a gap of approx. 2 inch where there is no metal track (I assume this is correct?) and used to stop the mechanism when the "home" position is reached. However, after a selection is made there must be something which tells the arm to rotate until the selected pin is found? - This seems to be where the problem is, because that is not happening.

If the mechanism is not at the "home" position, or if I put a ground to the outside track, then the arm rotates and finds the selected pin and everything else works okay.

To summarize, whenever a selection has been made and one of the pins on the selection drum has been thrown, then arm on the outside (right side) of the selection drum should rotate until all pins have been reset, but in my case the arm will only rotate to the "home" position and then not go any further.

Any ideas would be welcomed.

Sounds to me like the copper wobble plate spring is busted off.

Thanks Ken

I have just had a quick look through the manual. I can see the wobble plate solenoid, but not the copper spring you refer to.

Please can you explain where it is, or do you know where it is shown in the manual?

Cheers

Keith,
It's a copper "U" shaped item that holds the micro switch closed ( or maybe "helps" the wobble plate go to the position that holds the switch). Common item that's broken--causes that symptom every time -- should be evident in the parts book.

Thanks, that looks like it.

According to the manual it is part # 42299 - Switch Actuating Spring.

Next problem is where to get a new one?

I can't see it on jukeboxparts.com and a google search didn't throw anything up - except for Victory Glass who won't sell anything for less than $25, and I'm not paying $25 for a $2.50 item.

I am guessing that this part must be readily available if it is a common fault.

I'd be grateful for any info on how to get hold of one.

Back in the day when we used to operate dozens of that vintage rockolas on the route, I used to replace several of those copper springs.
