MOVED: Waters and Conley Phonola

by Shady McCree » Tue May 12, 2015 3:51 am

Hello - we've had this Water/Conley Phonola crank up phonograph lying around for quite some time. I decided to give it a whirl on some 78s that we also had (both were given to us). I cannot find any information on even the model or a manual for these machines - please see attachment. Any help in identifying this is appreciated.

Soundwise - the eletronics seem fine, it played the record. However, the weight/pressure of the needle/stylus actually stopped the record. I'm sure the mechanical parts underneath need some lubrication, but should there be a proper weight/balance where the needle just rests lightly on the record?

I am completely new to this, so any information at all would be helpful. I wouldn't even know where/who to take this to have it looked over!

Interesting, not sure how to attach the picture, will need help on that as well!

thank you.

Hi Drew:

I assume that this is a conventional Phonola acoustic model, and not an electrical/spring wound combination, and have moved it to the Acoustic Talking Machines forum.

The attached photo should appear as html text in your message. To see the photo click the "preview" or "Submit" button.

Here are a few videos showing some Phonola models --
