Hi All,
I ran into a strange motor problem on a Seeburg SPS-2 yesterday--
Owner complained that it "stopped--anywhere, any time, it felt like it--in the middle of a selection, or going to a selection--but it always started by itself within thirty seconds".
I played selection after selection--no problem. He stood there and just kept saying "--Just wait--it'll do it !"
OK--I waited about 30 minutes--then in the middle of Johnny Cash singing "Folsom Prison", ol,' Johnny just quit, for about 10 seconds. OK--so I checked the scan control contacts--OK, no pits, plenty of pressure, checked the Autospeed dummy plug--no signs of "burning", contacts looked good, checked the mech plug--looked good here too, checked the reversing switch contacts--OK here, motor cap solder job--good too--
Long story short--I found it--red wire on reversing switch had been "tinned, and wrapped onto lug", but had never been touched with a soldering iron--Phono had been built in 1973 or so--

Hi Ron,

That jukebox sounds as if it must have been a Friday night build or the engineer working on it went for a pee and forgot what they were doing.

Knowing that "production line" in those days--I would bet the lady soldering that wire was "distracted", by some nearby "goings-on"--- Ron Rich

Sounds like your Seeburg production line was like the bottling plants in the breweries over here

Most anytime I was near the "production line", I was "fighting" with the foreman, over something--
I don't recall the order of the work done on the reversing switch, but I imagine that the motor was installed and the motor wires were wrapped onto the R switch contacts--but not soldered till the mechanism cable was added.

So you had been the "some nearby "goings-on" "? No wonder the ladies were "distracted" ...
