I have been looking for a mid to late 1950s RCA Victor New/Stereo Orthophonic player for a long time. As many
of you probably already know, I have stated that my 88 year old Great Aunt has a RCA Victor SHC 4 Console Stereo from 1959. Ever since I was a child I was fascinated by that thing. The sound that thing put out and still puts out is unbelievable. A few years ago when I was curious when that particular stereo was made, I started looking up information over the internet. I have nver taken the back off or anything on this set to look at it, because my aunt would never even dream of letting me take it apart. I found out that its model SHC 4. mahogany in color. While searching, I noticed that RCA made several Orthophonic models starting probably around 1955. I am quite fascinated with the table top consolette models, because they are more portable, and I may be able to place one of them on top of my 1961 Magnavox Console Stereo. Unfortunately, I am running out of room for big consoles so a table top model would be perfect! Most of these have legs that you can screw on so the unit can stand on the floor. I also found out that some of these units were indeed mono, and not "stereo" like Aunt Jean and Uncle Roberts. Some of those units still sound really good for being mono. Most of them are called "High Fidelity" Players. I will pay good money for one of these in restorable condition. I hate to have to restore one of these things because its going to cost me a fortune to have my 1961 Magnavox restored if I decide to do so.
