Seeburg wheels/cups..Ugh!

Finally, I get to ask a question.

Later this week I take possession of another VL. I didn't want it, but it is a trade for a fair amount of computer equipment which the owner needs to start a small business.

The machine is an "ok" original with one big problem: The cups are all broken and the wheels have peened the threads of the carriage bolts so badly that I know the bolts will just turn in the wood.

I've had this problem occasionally on one or two wheels and had to use a hand-held grinder to wear away the bolts. On this machine it looks like all are really bad.

Is there any better solution?

I hate to tell you this--I think you're stuck using the grinder--
One suggestion--when you mount the new sockets, use longer carriage bolts,and lock washers. "Knock-off" the "ring" from the old sockets, use this ring on the inside for added support, on the INSIDE of the cabinet--makes a huge difference in how long the castors work-- well--

Yeah, that what I figured....

As for those wheels and cups, I throw them out (I dumped the NOS ones I had 17 years ago). It is pointless to use junk like that on a machine that weighs 426 Lbs. I use 3" bolted hard rubber casters.

This will likely be moot as I've made a tentative deal to sell the VL to a couple who bought one of my Continentals back in Nov. 2000.

I'm going to give then a set of rebuilt electronics from my stock...I'll have to partially un-mod them along with instructions as to how to disassemble and wash the machine.

It is kind of a measure as to where I stand in this hobby/business now. Fifteen or so years ago I would have been excited to get another Seeburg 200, now...not so interested.
