Tech help please! Rock Ola 494 fails test mode - I'm new!

So I picked up this Rock Ola 494 at a storage unit and it looks complete so I started poking around with it. I'm a total novice at these things so please bear with me. I was planning to sell it but there seems to be no interest in the thing non-working. Anyway, I could never get the thing to play after crediting it up so I read the manual and learned about putting it in test mode so I tried that and it immediately grabbed a record and started playing. Cool, I thought! It needed some adjustment but at least I knew the mechanisms were working. I did that a few times but then suddenly it stopped working even that well.

Now when I put it in test mode and press S4 it will cycle the carousel once and the turn table will spin and then it will stop and the display will just say "FAIL". Not only does this hurt me sensitive feelings, but it also means I can't play music. Reading through the manuals online didn't seem to offer any specific advice so I thought I would turn to human beings for tips.

Anyone have any suggestions for the new guy? Thanks!
