Hi all,
I'm a newbie who just got a '63-'65 magnavox micromatic, and i've been having some problems with it. I had to replace the needle, and while trying to get the cartridge out, I did a stupid thing and unscrewed the counter-weight at the back of the arm. After getting the needle on, i had the hardest time re-attaching the counter-weight. When I finally got it on, the arm was all out of balance, and wouldn't sit down on the record. Now I've got it jury rigged on there so that it at least stays down, but now I'm having trouble with the speed. It plays much too slow when set at 33, and to get the speed right I have to push the selector near to 45, and I can find the right speed in there. Is this because the weight of the arm is off, and slowing it down, or is there a problem with the motor? It sounds kind of loud when it's on (without a record playing), but having never heard it play before I put the new needle on, I don't know if it was like this before. Any info and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-Leland
