AMI Continental MK1 amp question

by gary » Tue Jul 17, 2007 11:34 am

Hi folks, I have a question regarding my AMI
Continental. I am getting a popping noise from the
speaker whenever a record finishes. At high volume, it
is quite loud. I can live with it, but I was wondering
if this is normal or is there something that can be
done to cure this. When rejecting the record using the
reject button, there is no noise. Does this problem
have anything to do with the muting switch? Any advice
would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Gary

Observe the arm carefully to see what happens at the exact time the sound occurs.

This sounds like a muting switch problem. The muting switch should engage before the pickup lifts from the disc.

One other thing to look for: Is the stylus being pulled out of the groove when the arm clutch engages? If so, it could be a tonearm lift problem instead.

Another possibility is that the cartridge is damaged, if it is ceramic or crystal.
