Rowe ami Jal button bank

by Markieboy123 » Thu Sep 22, 2016 10:57 pm

Hi Everyone.
I am restoring my second Rowe Ami Jal.
I have an issue where I cannot get the a sides to select..the search unit stops at the correct place but the pin pusher is not being energised.
I have proved the fault onto the button bank after swapping with a working unit from my other Jel.
Has anyone got an idea where the fault maybe?
I have already stripped down unit and cleaned the spring loaded connections.
Has anyone got a idea where the fault on the button bank is?
Regards Mark

Hi, have you checked the wired connections on the comb, which connects the button bank to the search unit, none of them must be touching each other. Have both button banks got the detachable lead via a jones plug onto the button bank to the search unit, if so, try just swapping those to narrow the fault down to the lead or the actual button bank. I suspect the fault lies in the lead not the actual button bank itself. Other reasons for only playing b sides is miss adjustment of micro switch no 4 on cam resulting in the toggle shift solenoid not being energised. But as you say pin is not being fired on search unit. So fault most likely in the lead from button bank to search unit. Also check all wired connections on boards on button bank.

Hi Harry. ..
Both button banks and fed via the jones plug and a nylon connector. .the other bank works fine when I swap them over
all the wiring appears ok on the bank just wondered what wiring triggers the pin pusher just for the a sides..
thanks for the help you helped before when I used the teac amp on my other Jel as a temp measure.

Hi Mark, I have never come across the later nylon connector to the search unit, on a JAL or JEL, Tropicana yes, does the connector plug onto the side of the search unit or the top. Not that would cause your prob, Just trying to visualize everything. If like you say the lead plugs into both button banks via the large jones plug and you have tried both leads (not button banks) When the search unit stops at the correct position when it should fire the pin do the buttons unlatch . Also check all connecting wires on both sides of the button bank boards. Both fuses, and relay contacts etc. Best to give me a ring, I hate typing, Harry.

HI, Mark,Well it seems like it has developed a few issues, So best thing is to start from scratch. Remove the mech, onto your bench and go through every adjustment and all connections as per your manual. check everything is moving freely no jams anywhere, and nothing has moved out of adjustment. And keep going and making yourself a cup of tea. Harry.
