"--04 WurliTzer problems

Hi All,
Just looked at a 2404 WurliTzer doing something I ainna never seent afore ( 'course, I only seant a few "04's in my life! ).
Cycle is fine till the pin is released--at which point, the basket "hiccups"( reversing switch is flipping back/forth) around till it finds the pin, then jams tight against it--motor does NOT reverse ?? Any one got any ideas ??

Ron, I think we may be thinking of the same switches but in different names.

First, the crank should never be able to reverse at all. It is locked to the carousel via a pin and notch under the carousel.

The two switches at the rear are called Transfer & Mute-Play. If someone has Gepettoed with the adjustments as often happens as switches get pitted and erratic it can cause the actuator rollers for either switch to ride the cam and flip the switches. The cam rollers that operate the switches are help slightly off the cam by the keepers. If those are tinkered with so that the rollers ride the cam and the switch actuator screws are set too far the switches than be actuated by the screws on the cam ramp instead of the ramp itself.

The first 1800 I bought had all of these adjustments wrong..

I think you have a combination of tampering and sluggish operation.

The above are for a 200 model, but the cam switches are the same.

The Reversing Switches are at the side of the junction box and actuated by the plunger that is released by the crank. that is another trouble spot if it has gotten sluggish due to old oil. With power off just pull the crank back as if it hit a pin. the plunger should drop immediately.

Hi Rob,
Thanks--I suspect from what you have written that the "pin is sluggish"--as the crank arm is JAMMED against a released pin ?
I will need to go back and find that pin, and the "reversing switches"-- Ron Rich

Yep, the switches are outside the junction box on the side closest to the amp. The linkage may be gummed up too. They appeared to be the same type of micro as used on the crank assembly in the 200 models.

This is the sort of problem that would "go out with the wash" when I took mechs apart to bathe them.

I know you are 100% correct on "bathing" them, however, I have never given a bath to a WurliTzer, and don't want to start now--giving my 85 lb English Lab.,a shower, once a week, is all I can handle at my advanced aged !! :lol: Ron Rich
