I am looking to replace the Shure M44 cartridge in my Rowe R86 jukebox. It appears that the M44 is no longer made.
What is the proper replacement for it?
Thanks,
Dan

Dan,
Sure M44 is the best for that application--
Why are you looking to replace it ? Those almost never "fail"--
You should be able to pick one up at one of the places listed in announcements---

Don, given the realities of that tone arm I'd second Ron's recommendation but add that a Stanton V400.3 might be an even better alternative due to that arm's poor bearings and excessive bias.

BTW: What makes you think the cart is bad?

Hi Dan,
I agree with Ron, what is the problem with the Shure M44 that is fitted?
The cartridges are made up of two parts a plastic surround and an inner metal assembly, the two parts are just stuck together and at times can come adrift, if this is the case just re-glue.
You can get the Shure M44-7 cartridge that is used by DJ's it has almost has the same properties.
In the UK they cost around £46.00 including a styli.

Shure cartridges seem very versatile.
As a temporary measure I used a spare M44 cartridge I had for my hifi, it was either an EJ or an ED and put it in one of my Rockolas, I had to take it out of its holder which was a push fit with a dab of glue, but it worked fine.

Thanks for all of your replies. I don't think there is anything wrong with the cartridge I was just wondering if it would sound better if I were to put a new one in. I have been trying to make it sound as good as possible.
I finally have everthing working thanks to all the help that you guys have given me.
Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,
If you want to make sure that the cartridge is wired correctly, on the amplifier you are using the cartridge needs to be wired in phase on some Rowe Ami amplifiers it needs to be wired out of phase. Check that you are connecting to the correct tappings on the output package.
