HI, I'm a Noob Here, After a Year of enjoying my Rockola 432, the Juke has deceided to only play at 33rpm instead of 45. It is loaded with 80 45's so I would love to get it back working, the only workaround I have found is to play a 7" 33rpm with the small hole first and then when the Red tabs pop back up , the 45 speed comes back for a while Any ideas?? Can i make it only play 45's?? thanks for any help. Jim

Jim: Likely problems are the mechanism underneath the turntable or the motor grommets. If you have a parts manual, compare the illustration with the underside of your turntable to see if you can spot if anything's missing or not right. Manually operate those tabs to see if they move freely. I had the opposite problem with that same turntable on my 474: it wouldn't retract to play the small-hole EPs. I removed it and cleaned it up, especially around the spring coiled around the mechanism. While the turntable was off I noticed the three motor grommets were wasted, so I replaced those so that the platter would be in the best height position against the motor. It now plays fine. If the turntable is the issue, you could replace it with practically any other model that doesn't have the two-speed mechanism (I.E. 480-496). That would, of course, prevent you from playing EPs.

Usually, just a drop or two of 20 wt. oil on the "shift mechanism" will "repair" that problem-
unless the gripper is not centering the 45 correctly---in which case, the gripper assembly needs the oil .

Thannks Patrick and Ron, I think it might be the arm, because the tabs move freely as does the spring mech underneath, so I think I will try and put some 20wt oil on the gripper mech, see what happens, any special oil/brand to use?? Thanks for the Help

As long as the red tabs will stay up, the TT is not the problem source.
Any ND 20 wt. 3 in One sells a 3 oz can--labeled "motor oil"--available at /Granger and Lowes for sure, and most any other good hardware stores-- Ron Rich

Ok I got the Oil and put 2 drops on the gripper, still no change, but I did find something interesting, When I take the platter off so I can see the operation, I pulled a record out and then chose that slot to watch what happens, the bracket that is sticking straight up in order to be in 45 speed, goes down without anything touxhing it, strange I thought it would only go down when a record touched the tabs or if I manually touched the bracket, but it goes down all the time without a record or my fingers touching it.

I have seen that happen several times--unfortunately, I can't remember the exact cause--I'm thinking that it actually is failing to lock, in the up position-??-and it is a "lubrication problem", under the TT, in the "speed setting linkage". Look for dry, and/or gummy grease. Fully, remove it, and use a drop or two of the same oil in it's place, or find some CRC Stay-lube Moly-graph hi-temp, grease, and coat it lightly---Ron Rich
