Seeburg 1000 Advise-Bad Hum!

While playing my Seeburg 1000, every so often you'll get a very nasty,
audible hum. Sometimes it gets louder than the music playing...is this
the actual records (some of them are pretty beat) or the mech itself?
Someone once mentioned something about motor bushings(?) possibly
being the culprit. Any opinion on that? Thanks for any help you may
provide!

I'm *pretty sure* it is coming from the speakers...

Doc,
This could indicate something as simple as a poor connection in the "tone arm wiring", or something more complex internally in the amp.
I would check and re-seat all "plugs" first. If that does not stop it--amp rebuilding is probably necessary. Ron Rich

Sounds like leaky filter capacitors in the amp to me.

OK, I checked all connections and they check out...before I send out the amp for a rebuild what are the chances of this being a bad needle/cartridge? Are these still available? I understand they're special to Seeburg 1000's.

Doc,
Very rare that the cart/needles are a cause of hum--likely to be an "intermittent open" in the wires going there however, or any "contact" along the audio path.
Carts. and the same as used in jukes of that age, and are an easy find--"Good" (red colored) needles are rare--Ron Rich

Thanks for all the input on this! I really love this box and want to make it right...I have a spare parts box mech. and will swap it out this weekend. While on the subject, anyone have a decent source other than ebay for the records?

There should be "no source" for those records, as the contract on them provided for a time limit that they could be played. They should have been destroyed after the time limit ended. Ron Rich
