Phonoland

Hey i'm normally a jeep guy, but a friend of mine was going to throw this out, and i hate seeing cool things get trashed so i grabbed it. It still cranks and plays but has some damage to it.





The hinges stick a little bit, and the venier is kinda shaky in some spots. Theres also a crack in the piece that holds the needle holder. I searched but can't find any information on the stodart company. I know there were several hundred manufacturers of phonographs, but i was hoping just to find some information about this one. Hopefully someone here can help me out. Is this thing worth anything or did i just take another piece of junk home?

These off brand phonographs normally don't command a lot of money, even in good condition. As you note, there were hundreds of companies involved in the business by the teens, when the key patents held by the major companies -- Victor, Edison and Columbia -- expired.

The one you have is missing its grille, but looks, otherwise, complete. It would probably make a nice restoration project.

Thanks for the article! that's pretty cool. I've been through the gracyk site only only saw that one mention of stodart in the list of manufacturers. As it sits i'm going to definately hold on to it and enjoy it. I don't really want to restore it, just clean it, and make it safely functional.
