Wingnut,
Did you try dis-connecting the input cable at the amp while it's playing ? If you still have hum, at this point--the problem is internal to the amp. If the hum is gone--re-connect the cable, play a record and lift the tone arm off the record--no hum, problem is mechanical in the turntable--still hummms, problem is in cartridge, tone arm, and / or cable. Ron - It seems like you're right. I took off the turntable and the grommets are paper thin. I've ordered a set of replacements. Keep you posted.

Ron- I replaced the grommets and still have the hum. I emailed John Durfee who I bought the grommets from and he thinks the motor is worn and causing the hum. According to John replacement motors do not exist. Oh well. I guess I may have to learn to live with it.

Have you attempted to oil the motor ? Most "small motor shops" can rebuild it--

Hi Ron - No. I haven't attempted to oil the motor. I have the correct oil (bought for my Seeburgs). I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

Hi Ron - I took your advice and put a couple of drops of oil down the motor shaft and it seems like the hum is fading away. Go figure.

Is the "bottom bearing" accessible ? Either way, it should also be oiled--I can't remember what that model motor looked like, but if it's a "standard" turntable motor, it has felt pads on both ends that need to be saturated, every year or so with SAE 20 wt. ND oil--ONLY. The idler wheel post, should also be oiled with the same oil--careful not to over-oil this, because if oil gets on the rubber, it will slip. Ron Rich
