Seeburg S100 Phono Jet Carriage Linkage

Hello! My (wife's) S100 was a birthday gift for her two years past, and I almost got it working.

The last part I replaced (and first one, as it happens) was the mech trip coil. When I power up, there are no lights on the button console. However, I can make a selection and the buttons do latch. At that point, they release, and the mechanism scans. It stops at a selection (I haven't yet looked closely enough to determine if it's the correct selection) and attempts to play the record.

Sometimes the record moves a wee bit, but doesn't get picked up, and the assembly returns to "home". Sometimes the record does get picked up, the needle touches the record, it is immediately placed back on the rack, and the assembly returns to "home". The chap I bought the coil from suggested an issue with the carriage linkage. I confess that I have no idea what he means, and I don't want to wear out my welcome with a barrage of questions.

So! Have I gotten to the end of the tinkering phase, and now must purchase a guide or tome or scroll to lead me through this electric rat's nest? At least the interior of the cabinet has a pleasant scent of light duty oil.

Any advice is most appreciated.

"Long" may very well be an understatement.
But then again, I'm at least familiar with which is the pointing end of a soldering iron. Got the missing fingerprints to prove it.
