Motorola Cabinet Repair

I have a nice Motorola 3 Channel Stereophonic record player that I recently acquired. Everything works great, however the top and sides of the cabinet are in horrible condition from what looks like sun damage or some sort of cleaning abrasive. I'd like to restore the cabinet to almost new condition, but unlike the front of the record player the top and sides look like they are covered in a fake vinyl wood veneer. I've searched everywhere on the net and can not find anything to match it. Any suggestions or links that could help?
Thanks!
Brandon

I've not heard of cabinets from the 60's being covered in wood-look vinyl veneer. You need to determine if it is in fact a vinyl or wood veneer. If it is wood and the finish is shot but not gouged it can be refinished. If it is vinyl forget about it unless you can find new vinyl veneer to cover it. Most finishes can be easily restored with out stripping (which deducts from the original value) by simply cleaning and reapplying stain after which you wipe off the excess and put a coat or two of Butcher's Paste Wax.
