Neuses N-10 spring tension gauge

I have read many post on using the PK N-10 spring tensioning gauge to adjust the tracking on the Seeburg jukeboxes. I was wondering how to use it. I read that you have the record in a playing position(non spining) and then what do you do?

What would the ideal tracking be for a Seeburg library console with the gold cartridge?

Would a red head cartridge have a different force for tracking?

Hi Larry,
Every Service Manual contains a page on how to set the tone arm pressure-The black, (or "Gold") pickups should be set at 7-8 grams. The "Redheads" at 4-5 grams-Caution--Tone arm springs are different for the measurements, and despite what you may read elsewhere, are NOT interchangeable ! Ron Rich

Thanks for the advice. I ordered a manual for the Seeburg Library Unit and haven't received it yet. That should help with the values. I ordered one of the pk n-10's and I guess I'll just figure it out. Not sure if I push it, pull it, etc. I can't find anything on the net or Youtube. I ended up buying it at a piano store.

My Seeburg A has manual and they recommended 22 grams for the 78 RPM black head cartridge. WOW, that's a lot. The guy I bought the jukebox from had some special springs made. They look like the stretched out in the middle springs that are on some photos from this web site. He said that he had it at 11 or 12 grams, which is great for saving the records, but I have no idea on what it is really set at. I just cleaned all my records when I buy them, and so far I don't see any obvious wear on them.

The only wear I have is when I play one of my deep tunnel records, the ones that the groove is so deep you can use it for irrigating crops. They will give off some black residue. I don't like playing them because I'm sure it's destroying the needle.

Got the manual and you are right, there was a picture of the same gram gauge and easy to follow instructions.
