Rockola amplifier 48350-A

by clones » Fri May 20, 2016 12:12 pm

Hi
Just a question regarding the above amp. I have come across loads of these amps before where one channel would be dead. The one I currently have both channels are dead. The autoformer 50V.C.T. as listed in the parts part no. 49300 which is located beside the capacitor board is running hot and starting to smoke, i changed it and tried a spare but with the same results.
Anybody come across this before or what might be the reason for it

Clones,
Look at the schematic--what "draws power" from the AF ? One or more of what is drawing power, is bad !

The transformer is being overloaded from "something" drawing excessive power from it. Probably something in the power supply section like a shorted diode or filter capacitor. Possibly maybe even shorted output transistors in the output stage.

Hi
Just as a follow up on this two capacitors C40 and C38...100 microfarads 70v) on the capacitor board in the amp were causing the problem with the auto transformer. Once they were replaced the overheating and smoking stopped. I reckon my lack of sound problems are either the small six pin IC's on the pre amp board or the power transistors on the driver boards.
