Recently, I picked up a boxed set of 3 12" records called American Top 40 program No.722-11, Chart date 6/10/72. I've never seen another one here in Oz, but I'd imagine the radio program was recorded, pressed, and sent around to many different stations around the US, and the rest of the world. Whether many survive today I don't know. Are they very common, and collectible? Any info on these, or other sets would be appreciated.

They turn up every now and then at record shows in the U.S. I have to admit I had never seen one with such an early date - usually the most common ones I see are from the mid-1980's. Average price is US$25, based on my experience. It might vary based on the artists, special shows, etc. They were syndicated shows and were sent to various stations around the States - even to Armed Forces Radio Network. When I was stationed in Germany, "AT40" was my connection to what was hot back home.

Hello: I have 10 sets of these records that are Top 40 prints of the shows that aired on the radio, some by Casey Kasem and the later ones by Shadow Stevens, I listened to all of the shows on Sunday morning and was very excited to learn that there were 12inch 33 1/3 albums of each show, there are several listed on ebay if you punch in American Top 40 or Casey Kasem, not sure how rare they are but some are available, mine start in the year 1973 and later up into the 80's, pretty neat to listen to with all of the commericals.

Older ones like yours are very scarce, the discs did get sent to overseas stations, some aired the program (including some Australian stations). I have some from this era. The show debuted on July 4, 1970 and was distributed in mono only until later into 1973 when Stereo became offered. I work in broadcasting as engineer and operator.
