Hi, I just acquired a 1926 Brunswick Panatrope phonograph. It has what is called a "Tomcat" amp. Are these hard to repair? Does anyone know where I can find anyone who can work on these beautiful phonograph? My Panatrope does not have a radio. All the tubes are there. I am anxious to get it working.

The schematic for the Panatrope is here -
http://www.nostalgiaair.org/Resources/066/T0000066.htmIt looks like a typical, and very simple circuit from the day...
I'd be able to do restorations on it if you were able to get it to my repair shop in Philly.

I can see that many wires are fixed to the cabinet. Should the amp remain in the cabinet for repair, or can you take the amplifier out?

In those very old radios, they didn't allow for easy "serviceability".
I did an old 1929 Grunow for a customer that was a real pain.
The best thing is to be able to work on these as a compete unit, so that everything can be worked on and
tested.
The mechanics of the record players always need overhaulling due to aging.
Wiring most times becomes brittle and deteriorates, making safety an issue.
And also, the speakers, being part of the amplifier circuit, are needed to assure proper amplifier operation.
It's always a big job, but once it's done, they're a treasure to own.
