Rockola 454 Missing Selections

Hi Guys,

Back to my RO 454. I'd like to thank Ron Rich for his advice last time with a few issues I was having. A couple of other little things have started happening recently.

First, lower selections in particular seem to get "missed", the pins pull when a selection is made, but the mech never stops to grab them. This seems to be mostly on the lower numbered selections (ie 100, 101, 102 etc), but rarely it will miss another. Sometimes the record basket will revolve five or six full cycles and finally grab one. Any ideas? I do have a manual, which wasn't much help here.

Also, after the last pin has been reset and the mech / basket is returning to the "home" position, I'll sometimes get an intermittent "jerk", almost as if power is coming and going, if that makes sense.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Sean

Sean,
You are welcome--
On the missing selections AND the "jerk"--That's typically a problem with the read-out arm/rings.
The ONLY "cure" I have ever found, is to wash the rings with a (plastic-safe) safety solvent, then use Deoxit 5 on them, and the contacts themselves, ( which first should be removed, checked, and burnished). I have heard others say to use "sandpaper" on the contacts/rings, but I strongly suggest that this is NOT the thing to do, as all it accomplishes, IMHO, is to remove more "material" from the rings. If the contacts are "sandpapered", it embeds sand into the silver, and they become intermittent-
