1969 maggie astrosonic/micromatic cosole needle

hi. i have the above unit and would like to get a new cartridge/needle. i understand that guitar centers sell needles. do you think they would have one? how do i find out what cartridge and needle this turntable takes? greg

Is there any way that you could post a picture of the turntable - or provide a model number? The model number will be located underneath the turntable.

Scroll down to the Electronic Gramophones and Phonographs forum. There's an FAQ about needles and cartridges. It's had over 1,000 hits, so some folks are paying attention.
If your unit dates to 1969, you may have a turntable like some of the ones pictured below. They may use an EV-275 or an Astatic 165D. They may also have a Magnavox number on it like 560345. It's been several years, but I think these needles were $4.99 to $5.99 at Radio Shack (online only) and I have used several different needles with those cartridges. Some of those needles have a longer rear stem where they snap into the cartridge, so they may not work unless you trim it with some nail clippers...hey, bether than nothing and it seats snugly. --BB
