Recently picked up a Wurlitzer 3500 and am anxious to get it up and running. I've made adjustments, found broken pieces, ordered new pieces, and am still trying to get there. The record clamp pins were broken so when a record went to play the clamp stayed on it bogging it down. I can manually hold the clamp off of the record so the turntable turns, but now it turns real slow. Could the motor be bad from this problem bogging it down? I have no idea how long this has been going on. Or could it possibly be that the motor need to be oiled? there again I have no idea the last time it was ever oiled. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Usual causes for that are lack of proper oil, bad/oily/dirty, belt, and "sagging", motor supports. Ron Rich

Thanks for responding. I did change the belts already. When it comes to the motor, what kind of oil do I use? Also, when you say bad/oily/dirty, are you talking about the turntable itself or the shaft on the motor?

I recommend 20 wt. (electric) motor oil--you can purchase this i 3 OZ cans at Lowes, and other good hardware stores--
On SOME WurliTzers there is a note on the idler saying not to oil it-- if there on that model--oil everything else--including the wheels that the whole turntable "slides on"--

Thanks for responding. I got the turntable speed figured out but while doing some final adjustments I've done something and now the record clamp doesn't work. I make a selection, the magazine turns to the record, then nothing. The record clamp doesn't grab the record and take it to the turntable. I can manually close the switch on the cam and then the clamp will work properly. The record ends and the clamp puts it back into the carousel, goes to magazine home, and then I select another one and the cycle starts up to the clamp freezing. I've tried tracing what is wrong to no avail. Any help would be appreciated...Thanks

Is the "basket-lock solenoid" energizing--is that switch by the solenoid "making" ? Ron Rich

Are you talking about the "magazine lock" on the outside of the record carousel? If so, yes it is working. I used my manual and adjusted the override assembly and made sure the magazine lock was working.

Yep--Magazine (or Basket) lock iz da one ! Is the Micro Switch working ? If so, it should start the gripper motor--follow the schematic, as I think there is at least one more switch in the series--Ron Rich

Ok, verified that the micro switches are good and made adjustments on various things. I found what looks like the main cam motor brake solenoid isn't connected to the bracket that pushes the pad up against the brake wheel. Then I noticed that when I spin the brake wheel, the main cam spins. I remember spinning this wheel last night while cleaning it. So I've come to the conclusion that I've probably rotated the main cam out of position, and that is why it's not closing the micro switch on the main cam. Am I on the right track??

I think you are on the right track--see the schematic for all switches in that circuit-- is your service switch in the "operate" position ? ? Ron Rich
