Hello, I am a newbie but, I read Rons post on newbies so here it goes.
Purchased a rowe R-86 a couple years ago. Took boards out had them assessed by a tech and had preventative maint done where needed. Juke worked fine . I run it on free play as its in my home. Recently I heard the records slowing down and then speeding to normal speed I opened it up and naturally looked at the mechanism assembly specifically at the motor that turns the turntable and noticed the toggle solinoid assembly was jogging left & right causing the turn table to slow the pick up to normal speed. My question is what causes this? Bad capacitor or is the solinoid it self ( part # 2-18182-01 & 2-18183-01) in the rowe manual. Am I correct in assuming this could be the problem or could it be something else? Any help is appreciated.

That's a new one on me--perhaps Alan can jump in here ??
I am only guessing,but since the "mech controller" (MCC) regulates both the motor and the toggle coil--I would guess that there is something happening inside it ?? Perhaps a shorted TRIAC ?? Ron Rich

If the problem resides in the mechanism control then check out R200, R201, R202, R203, R204, CR201, Q200, Q201 and C202 these components are all in the TT Motor Circuit. It might be an idea to check the cap/caps on the turntable motor, these have been a known issue.

I would however check your power supply for the 28 volt DC and 28 volt AC, know issues ar dry joints (cold joints USA) on the PCB (transformer connections being the worst) loose spade connections on the circuit breakers under the PCB board.

On the left-hand side of the mechanism the 9 pin connection plug and socket check out the socket mounted into the frame, I have known pins being pushed out of the socket and therefore not making a connection, of courseall the power rails come through this socket.

Please let us know what you find out.

Alan, IMHO, you are probably "spot-on" on this--
Since the toggle coil is acting up along with the motor, I was thinking internal to the MCC--however, it's more then likely pre MCC--
John, What I do in a case like this is "tedious", but it usually solves this type of a problem-- Start at the power supply by removing the board--like Alan suggests, look for bad solder joints on ==ALL == of the plug headers--re-flow new solder as necessary. On ALL of the wired plugs, remove one pin at a time, from the nylon, clean it ( if it has been burning, it MUST be replaced and the mating post must be checked/cleaned/replaced as needed), re-form it ( stretch it SLIGHTLY, so it fits tighter against the post, when inserted), re-install it-- After doing this to all the contacts in the power supply, don't quit now-go on to the CCC. IF, the CCC still has that "rotten foam" in it, remove it (re-space it with new rubber, a mouse pad often works, or card-board ). Then "do" all of the connections there--the do the same at the MCC--If this phono model has a "pricing board" do the same there (can't recall which models have it, or not ? )
My bet is you will now have solved your problem-- Enjoy-- Ron Rich

I had a friend who is more ecperianced than I take a look at your suggestions and we found dirty contacts on the power plug from the source to the turntable. Cleaned it. Seems fine now. Thank you for all the help. John H
