RCA vmt27 console

I just aquired an RCA console with a cool turntable that is actually 12 inches, so the record doesn't overhang over the edges. One of the channels is very low with distortion. I can't remember which, since I switched the outputs to test the speakers and they both work fine. I've tried the turntable, radio, and the aux input with same results. Is there a common cause for this problem? Contact spray on the control knobs hasn't helped, unless I'm doing it wrong? Also, my studiomatic turntable has a plastic piece that's broken that keeps the tone arm from resting on the record at its selected size. It just sits down at the arm rest, but will return at the end of the record. Any ideas? Thanks!

Being an expert on those consoles, and also a professional servicer, your problem is most likely damaged output transistors on one channel.
This can be due to aged defective speaker coupling capacitors as well.
They're old-style germanium high-wattage transistors, presently costing much more than modern silicon types. (vintage has its costs)
Also, availability is sketchy, but the proper replacements are the only ones that can be used.

As for the changer, it's also in need of a complete overhaul too.
You can't expect these to perform properly after 40-50 years without some form of servicing.
Parts are scarce as well.

Depending on your location, best thing is to get a reputable servicer to go over the unit.

I've done many of them, and they sound nice once working properly.

I have the photofact with the schematics. Can you point me the right direction? Thanks for your help!
