Radio-Matic Coin operated AM Radio

by tasha321 » Thu Mar 18, 2010 2:40 am

Hello all;

I recently was given a Radio-Matic coin operated radio(put in a quarter for 2 hours).
As best I can tell, these were used in motels in the 40's. Does anyone remember these?

It uses 6 tubes (filaments series strung)in a AC/DC layout. I have already changed the filter caps, and ac line cord.

A couple of questions

1-The radio works, but with a strong oscillation (hetrodyne?) when listening to a station (the oscillation is reduced when listening to a very strong signal). Does anyone have any thoughts?

2- When the back was removed (by others) the wires that were attached to the loop antenna on the back were torn loose. There are three connections on the back, however only two wires coming from the radio. Once again any thoughts?

Thank you all in advance for your help

Tasha
