Do you mean the category description or the title "Phonographs"?

In a recent post you mentioned sub-categories for each main subject. A new user, upon reading the description as it is currently worded, may look elsewhere for an answer to a question about a record changer or a wiring problem. As you know, some of your most valuable members spend much of their time here, giving dead-on answers to those very questions and more. We would hate to see such talent overlooked because of a mere editorial issue. Perhaps a sub-category to include electric machines and a link to some cartridge and needle sites(these guys get tired of giving directions, I think). After all, did'nt Mr. Edison know a little about electricity?
Good day.

Sorry for the slow reply...

Thanks again for your suggestion. I'm going to adjust the category description for phonographs today. Please let me know what you think! :D

About the links: We already have a links page but maybe I can somehow connect the forum to the links page. I'll look into that....

Regarding your last question about adding a sub-category: Which main category did you mean for adding a sub-category "electric machines"?

Thanks again for your suggestions!

Instead of "gramophome" and "phonograph" (which imply competing designs of acoustic players), the titles should be "Acoustic record players" and "Electronic record players".

The current descriptions clearly EXCLUDE discussions about LP and 45 players. That is the category I come here most for.

I think you could still have the separate Gramaphone and Phonograph categories, but the phonograph description should include the electronic machines that evolved AFTER the acoustical gramaphones/victrolas, etc. Is Gramaphone a general term loosely used like xerox, kleenex are sometimes used? The categories themselves are not confusing, it's just their descriptions.

Ok, I'll try to think of a description that include devices like 45 rpm & LP players.... I'll let you know here when I updated the category descriptions...

I guess us tube heads have to use the back door.

The term phonograph apparently causes a lot of confusion. I also notice not everybody agrees with each other, so I'm trying to find a structure that everyone can live with :)

How about the following subcat's?:

- Electronic record players (33/45 rpm)
- Gramophones (78 rpm)
- Phonographs (wax cylinder)

Have I left something out with the above subcategories you think?? Please let me know...

BTW, I have created a main category Devices/Machines, where these subcategories have now been placed.
