You've just about said it all in your posting. This is a 1927 Brunswick Panatrope, model 14-7. It was originally called 'The Florida." It cost $160 when brand new. I have one that I recently bought for over $1,000. (that amount includes shipping!)
This is a wonderful machine, and in my opinion, outperforms the Orthophonic Victrola models of same size.

If it's an all-acoustic model, like the one described above, you can buy steel needles from a number of suppliers.
Here are a couple of places that sell them:
http://www.wyattsmusical.com/featureditems.htmlhttp://www.soundsofold.com/page/280056203http://www.btinternet.com/~bill78/needles.htmAs you can see, prices vary widely.
To find more sellers, copy and paste the following into Google's search box:
Steel Needles Victrola OR gramophone OR Phonograph OR "record player"
Keep in mind, a steel needle can be used only to play ONE side of ONE record. You may be able to play two sides of a 10-inch record without damaging it, but more than that is asking for trouble.Hope this helps.
