Zenith player x560w turntable stops short

My wife and I were given her grandfather's Zenith x560w recordplayer. It hasn't been used in years, but worked at the time and hasn't had any trauma since. There is static coming from the speakers and when I turn the player on the turntable spins, but it stops suddenly at the same spot every time, not even making a full revolution, as though there is a break mechanism stopping it from moving. It does the same thing if I turn it by hand. We don't have a manual, or any experience with these things, so we could just be missing something. Could someone who is familiar with this model tell me if I'm missing something, or should I take it in to a repair shop? Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming this is an automatic record changer and not a manual one. If so it sounds like its in cycle and theres something jammed, froze or bent in the mechanism when the turntable is turned to a certain spot. It sounds like the mechanism has to be taken apart, cleaned, re-lubricated and put back together. When these changers get some age on them, the grease dries up and gets hard causing jams or certain parts of the mechanism to stick or freeze in place. Whatever you do, do not force the turntable to turn or serious damage can result. It can be fixed but isnt an easy job if your not skilled in these sort of things.

It is an automatic changer, yes. Thanks for the response. I'll see if I can find a local repair place.

The idler wheel probably has a hole in the rim. If so, it needs to be replaced.
