Seeburg Spectra LS! Need Help!!

I am trying to get a Seeburg Spectra LS1 working again. I am new to this, but a quick learner. The issue that I am having is that the jukebox will not scan at all. It will not move, unless you move it by hand. Everything on the record playing part of the machine activates, even though it won't pick up a record. I have been reading about these jukeboxes, and I believe it might be a lubrication issue. I took the part off that holds all of the records, so that I could lube some of the mechanisms. I put it back together, but it still won't scan. I hope this makes sense to you, and any help you could give me, would be greatly appreciated.

If you do not have a Seeburg Service manual for the LS-1, I suggest you purchase, and read, the SM package, and a copy of my "Seeburg Mechanism Guide" (PM me if you wish to purchase it). About the last thing I want to do on these, is remove the record rack--and it sounds as if that's what you have done ? I will need more info, using the ,Service Manual terms to fully understand what your problem is--but I doubt it's "just lubrication", at this point--

KissFan, without meaning to pile-on here, you are giving yourself a LOT more work by blindly tinkering.

First step for anyone unfamiliar with any brand/model of jukebox is to get a manual.

Once you have that the next step is to determine how much of the work you can do yourself. The amp and control units will need parts replaced -particularly capacitors and possibly a few resistors.

You should have the basic tools: soldering tool of 40-100watt. A DVM or amplified VOM. And basic hand tools.

I did remove the record rack, to get a good look at he clutch mechanism. I thought the clutch was stuck. Was this a bad move? I do have the service manual, but don't quite understand all of it yet. I have a 1967 Seeburg LS1 Spectra serial number 081782. The previous owner said that a record was stuck in it, and he pulled it out in pieces. Any help in pointing me to the right direction is greatly appreciated. As of now, it will not scan to pick up a record. It just makes a clicking sound, when I flip the switch to try to make it scan.

Removing the record rack (magazine) was not helpful, but not a big deal. It will need to be carefully realigned.

If you hear clicking while operating the service switch it is actuating the scan control. That is the two coil assembly in the upper right of this pic:

The left coil pulls up the ratchet momentarily and starts the mech scanning. A set of contacts in the center apply the 120volt AC to the motor.

Does the motor turn at all, either by hand or powered?

Yes it turns, but something is keeping it from locking in to make it scan. How hard will it be to realign the magazine rack?

First get it to scan.

There are two possible problems here;

1) Broken rubber motor coupling. Does the turntable turn?

2) Gummed clutch shifting yoke. Poor, or no lubrication is the typical cause here, hopefully that is all there is involved. However there is a possibility that the gear that the clutch engages has been stripped.

Look for the manual trip lever. It is just to the left of the vertical stack of contacts on the front of the mech. If you flip it up the mech should go into either scan if it was in play mode, or into play mode if it was in scan. if it is already up, press it down and see what happens. Again, it should change modes.

The mechanism MUST be thoroughly oiled using a 20wt non-detergent oil. Here is a lube chart:
