Seeburg 220 problem need help

My seeburg 220 has a problem, when i do a selection both buttons stay down and i hear a ground sound in the speakers but it starts to play my selection and when the song is over it starts to scan and doesn't stop. If someone can help me, I would appreciate it. Thank you!

I don't know what a 'ground sound" would be, but i suspect you are hearing the scan's 'add" coil staying energized. This is often due to a sticking timing relay in the credit unit. It can also be that the credit wheel is binding and not allowing the set of contacts that write-in and trigger the scan add coil to return to the rest position.

What type of credit unit do you have?

It might be helpful to post a pic of the rear door components.

All we need to know is what the model number of the phono is, then we can determine which pricing unit was factory installed. It also may be that he is hearing the "subtract coil", which is remaining energized---

Model number is: 220 S.

It looks like the latch bar solenoid doesn't impulse for release selection buttons. I don't need to put quarter to listen music it's by-passed i think...

Pricing unit if i look how the wires are plugged under selection buttons i think the model is SPU 1...i tried to post a back door picture but it's bigger than 1 mg...thanks again guys!!!

Take a look at this thread from last year: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5644

The large solenoid at the top of the assembly cancels credit, closes the write-in connections and pulses the add coil on the scan switch. This all happens when it pulls in. If it fails to release, it can cause some of the symptoms you cite.

Take off the cover on that credit unit and see if the solenoid fails to release after a write-in. If so, try gently jogging the cam that actuates the contact blades and see if it them pops back out. that would indicate a simple bind due to dried-gummy lubrication.

Thank you Rob!! I tried what you said and i saw a blue wire was broken and i think is this one give contact to release solenoid in the credit unit...so i fix it but now i can't choose selection...like if the jukebox is off...

The blue wire shown in the pic's goes to the outer terminal of the timing relay coil.

Since Seeburg switches things at the ground (negative-chassis) return, connecting to the wrong terminal might have blown the low-AC. Since Seeburg is so frugal with fusing, the main fuse (5A-slo) is the only protection. Check that and disconnect whatever wire you connected before turning on the machine again.

the cancel solenoid on to does not get a signal to return. The current is turned off by the timing relay and it simply pops out via spring pressure. Gummy pivot bearings on that assembly can prevent it from returning to the rest position. With power off, check the action manually.

The blue wire i fixed is the one between timing relay and cancel solenoid, the way it tooks are on the side clip on top and plug in the back. I checked the current between 1 and 5 and i have 28V both side...sorry for my english i'm french...

But, I need to admit, that I am confused.
What happens when you push either a number, or letter key down, with the motor off, and the service switch in the on, or operate, position ? Does the first button stay "locked down", or does it refuse to lock down---the 2nd button? If the 2nd button pops back up, does the carriage motor start ? If both buttons stay down, is the timing relay in the SPU energized, or not ? Does the coil in the SPU pull in, stay in, or not move at all ?

Hi Ron!

So, when the jukebox is on, the letter buttons and the numbers buttons doesn't lock down and nothing happen in the SPU is same thing like if is in off position...and if i put on scan position it scans...i verified what you said to me yesterday in the SPU and all work fine inside no gum and good lubrified so now i'm confuse too!!! And the fuse are good...

Hi Yohan,
OK--look in the SPU--see the six "switches" on the rotary switch assembly ??--carefully lift one of them up--you will hear the "snap"----
If good, the "select lamp" should now be lit, and the latch bar solenoid energized--try the above again and let me know--

Thank you so much is like a brand new!!! I'm really happy!!! Since december 24 i'm sad about this jukebox...my dad gived to me last year and all the amp was restaured...since 35 years it's in my family so i'm glad it works again!!!

Oups after 2 songs the problem start again...

OK--simple problem--you have no "Credits" on it--Drop a coin in the slot and see if it lights the lamp? See if the coin goes all the way to the cash-box, or comes out the return cup, or just "disappears" ?
