Rockola 6000 (legend) mystery

by southofi-10 » Wed Jan 01, 2014 1:10 am

I have 2 rockola 6000 legends.
One started acting up on cd play.It would start cutting out, then stop all together playing the cd.
Well, I figured the pickup was going bad, even though I recently changed it.
Here is where the mystery begins.I put in a known working cdpro that was tested and working fine in my other box.Nothing.I changed the known working system control board, nothing.I changed the cd interface..still nothing.
I have checked all the wires coming from the cdpro to the control with a meter..Everything looks good.
For some reason-I'm hoping someone knows--the unit still doesn't want to play.
I have put in several cd players.I know they can be fussy. But have yet to figure what the problem is.
All the interchangable parts work fine in the other box.cdpro-cd interface-control board-wiring harness from cd player to control board......
Any help is appreciated.

The ONLY suggestion I can make, is to start at one "end" and replace (swap) one item at a time--

When you say nothing, what do you mean? Does it place the CD on the player, does it spin as if it plays the entire song, does it spin stop spin stop? Have you checked the power supply?

Sorry I didn't describe fully.
Yes..It loads the cd and spins,stop,spins,stop..ejects
Sometimes it spins backwards,BUT..the same player will work fine in another machine.
I'm going to check my power supply and connections.
yes-Ron. i did do the swap think.Everytime I'd chagne a part,I'd test.Parts worked in one,not the other.I've changed everything but the wire harness.lol
I was focusing on the cd mech communications, but I'm thinking it's something else.
On to the power supply!!
Thanks

Check all power.Everything looks good.Cleaned pins..etc
When the cd lays on the turntable,it will sometimes just twist a little, and sometimes it spins like it's ready, but then it pauses and picks up the disc.
It seems like a bad cdpro, but I've put known good ones in.I can take the player out and put it in my other 6000 and it plays perfer.
Just can't find the glitch !!!!

Did you swap amps ? --almost sounds as if someone is holding a "reject switch:" down somewhere--
If you have a remote VC, un-plug it --check the switch on the cabinet rear--Check the error codes ( not sure--does RO have codes?) Ron Rich

Sounds like a job for an expert, eh?

Do not listen to that man behind the internet curtain!
And..... take off those Ruby Slippers!
You ain'ta going nowhere!

The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

Looks like I found the problem.....And the answer is..........."Clamper"
Seems this has gotten out of adjustment probably due to the change in temps in my workshop.Everything gets tight when it starts to get cold.
Alway why non of the cdpros would work. The clamper wasn't exerting enough force to keep the cd in a readable position.
Go figure that one.
At least I know the rest of the box is in good shape,LOL

Thanks

This makes "zero sense" to me ? The CD is held on via the magnetic clamp arm disc ! The clamp arm, which is pulled down by a spring, should never "exert any force", on anything--it must be adjusted so that it holds the disc in such a position that allows free movement of the clamping disc ? Are you saying that when cold, the spring did not pull the arm down far enough ?

U can loosen 4 screws to adjust the centering of the cd when it come onto the player.
It seems the clamper doesn't adjust when the cdpro is adjusted (centered),so the "magnet" was skimming the side and giving friction.
Some how it was outta wack.I'm just pressuming it was the cold, but it was most likely something I done.
