Rockola 483 Remote DIY Volume Control

by flyingpan777 » Sat Sep 06, 2014 12:30 am

Hey All,

I've been looking at using a remote volume control/cancel for my Rockola 483. It's getting to be a pain having to get behind the unit to adjust the volume. The only problem is that the ones I've seen on ebay are expensive or not complete (just the volume box and no connecter etc) I don't want the motorized controller, just the volume/cancel remote. Is there any way I can do this DIY? I don't even need the remote cancel, the volume control alone would work.

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,

They do come up now and again on eBay. That's how I got one for my 443. I got it a few years ago for £25, but it took six months of looking.
You'll need one with the twin volume controls, like the one on my 468, they plug in to the front of the amp, you replace it for the lead that goes to the volume control on the back of the machine. It's a five pin din plug on both mine. You might as well get one with the cancel button I use that more than the volume controls.

I don't mind if you don't like my manners, I don't like them myself, they're pretty bad, I grieve over them on long winter evenings.

Okay, so I managed to get an NOS remote volume kit that includes power. The kit does not come with the 5-wire unshielded cable that connects the remote box to the power and speaker distribution block on the jukebox (see attached pic)

Since the wires are unshielded, can I just take 5 wires of 20 or 22 guage, bundle it together and use that? I'm assuming I can but want to make sure.

Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,
The correct wire is Beldon #8445. This is 18 gauge, stranded wire. Depending on how long your wire is--either 20, or 22 gauge, should work just fine--Don't use "solid" wire. Ron Rich
