My Dad just picked up an Edison CC 52 cabinet 78 player. He bought it to play his old 78's. It is in good shape and works. Any thoughts/info on this unit? We do not know much about it.

Is it like the one on this page?

All Edison Diamond Disc model phonographs were designed to play Edison (brand) Diamond Disc records, and no others--that is, unless a special adapter is used for playing standard 78s such as those pressed by Columbia, Victor, Brunswick, etc. Oftentimes, you'll find one of these adapter kits, which were made by third party companies, supplied with the phonograph. You simply unscrew and remove the original Diamond Disc reproducer and insert the adapter, which includes the tonearm and reproducer. If one didn't come with your phonograph, you can probably find one for sale on eBay, etc. There are a few for sale on this page -- http://www.phonographs.org/store/reprod ... ibh5kitvp6

Also, here's some basic information that might come in handy:

And, if you need it, an Edison Diamond Disc Phonograph operator's manual is available on this page -- http://nipperhead.com/old/ddisc.htm

Thanks so much. We got a few records that are thicker than others, about 5/16 thick or so. Are these
the type that would be used originally with it? I will definitely check out the adapter kit. Thanks again.

They are about that thick, but easier still, they would have the name "Edison" on them. (No other company made the Edison Diamond Disc record.)

OK. I will check that out tomorrow. Also ,those adapters are listed as for Models DD,
am I correct to assume they will work with this CC model?

In the ads for the adapter, in the link I provided, "DD" is simply an abbreviation for "Diamond Disc", and does not indicate a specific model number of the phonograph. As far as I know, the same-size coupling (to attach the Diamond Disc reproducer--as well as any adapters) was used on all of the models.
