Rock-Ola 425 gripper motor - rebuild?

So I've got the gripper motor removed, and have cleaned up the drive shaft, cams, gripper arm and assembly so it once again operates poroperly (was seized up - detailed in another post).
Question: Aside from cleaning and maybe oiling the gripper motor, does it need anything else before being reinstalled? My brother, a vetereran of small engine repair mentioned opening it, cleaning the inside and packing it with new lithium grease since it is 40 some years old. Should I or should I test it as-is first?

Hello CoindoorDave,
I would agree with your brother and strip it down.

Hi Dave,
I would surley open the gear box, to check the condition of the grease. If still "plyable", I woud just spread it around as needed. If hard, it does need replacing--One caution must be observed: Either ALL old grease must be removed, or the new grease must be able to "combine" with the old. I don't like "lithium" grease--I much prefer a graphite based item. "CRC StayLube Moly Coat Hi Pressure" brand is what I use. Ron Rich

OK, so I got the motor out, and out fell 4 brass washers, 1 steel washer, and 1 washer of some fiber type material. Also, curiously, in addition to the two brushes & springs on either side in the bottom, a third spring (with about 1mm of a brush left) fell out (a spare from a previous repair?)
How are the washers layered (above/below brushes?) Looks like 2 or 3 go on top (looking at the pic above)...

Dave,
" The best way" to clean those cookie crumbs is Di-no-mite----one "poof" and they'z gone !
I use a solvent bath and a stiff brush.
As for the washers?? I think, they were assembled with the fiber washer in the center of the two metal ones---Ron Rich

Am I correct in assuming that there should just be the two brushes (near the screw holes on either side near the bottom)? A third (mostly a third spring, what little bit was at the end of the spring would not have made an effective brush...it was just rattling around inside near the bottom).
Cleaning it out (will post pics later). Thanks.

Question: after I finish cleaning and re-lubing the motor, what is the order/sequence that these washers go on? There are four brass, one steel (the same size as the brass ones), a slightly larger metal on (a bit concave) and a fiber one that appears to have a faint scoring where the larger metal washer went.

Is it possible to remove the motors with the unit open and not having to mess with the gear box? i.e. Can I leave the gear box and pull the motor away? Or do I have to remove the gearboxes too? I'm hoping that I can clean the motors without having to take the whole thing apart.

"Possible"--I would guess, "Maybe"--depending on where the motor is in relation to the outside of the cabinet--However, I would not attempt this--Motors are easy to remove--Un-plug, then remove the three bolts holding the motor in place--When returning them allow a very SMALL amount of "gear lash"--
