aye - indeed I triple checked my polarity on each electrolytic as I swapped them. but the main point of this exercise is to protect the tranny as I continue to work on the box, so I'd be glad to check against the schematic.

Ron how much time do you think I should spend on each voltage step?

I honestly do not know, as I use a 95 watt lamp and a 5 A CB/meter, in series with them on start-up--Quite often this will "pop" the CB, ONCE--then be OK, and read less then 3 amps---

indeed after holiday gigs pulled me away for a few weeks, i came back to the TCC on my "bench" (dining room table...) and looked over the electrolytics for polarity - and had a brief bout of confusion until i remembered the whole 'positive-ground' situation.

well i got 'er all buttoned up, brought 'er up gradually on the variac with a 60 watt bulb in the hot wire, and all had settled in well with a dim glow.

even better news - i plugged everything back in to the TCC, and after running the service switch through a few settings, and nudging the mechanism gently, it rejected a previously stuck (empty) record, then played some mystery selections (so charming, i don't know all these records...) it had been previously unable to reject a 'phantom' record...

it went on to play a couple selections that i seem to remember making a few weeks back. electromechanical memory is so amazing... i forgot that selections could possibly survive a total electrical blackout... even removal and rebuild of the 'brain' didn't wipe out tormat memory!

i spent the rest of this night loading up 45's and being able to select and play perhaps 80% of them as intended!

the whole select/reject process is behaving WAY better now! very exciting. i think i'm only having trouble with the 8 row not selecting sometimes.

lots more work to do (sounds crappy...) but i'm very encouraged!

Check the # 7 switch on the TES--that usually is that cause of an intermittent lack of ability to select a # 8 selection ('course, the # 8 switch is also suspect !), if the read out is functioning normally. Ron Rich

aye thanks Ron - will do, should that one reappear. i actually remember that one from the troubleshooting charts. I was just casually reading it after it arrived - it looks like a very clear process. in my case, it seemed that if a 7 or 8 selection was missed, it would eventually get played, even the next day.

since I started running it the other night, it has settled in and is working reliably. all of today I got 100 percent of selections played! woohoo!

I even loaded a mini- LP and it ran 33 1/3 at what seemed like the right pitch!

Now you have opened another "can of worms"--IF, it plays a selection " later", your problem is in the read-out, mechanism section, not write-in section of the system ( If you do not have one, You may wish to purchase a copy of my "Seeburg Mechanism Guide", in which I explain the various mech functions--PM me if you wish to purchase it).
