Seeburg Barn Find!

by old-school » Wed Feb 23, 2011 3:24 am

Hello everyone. Today I was lucky enough to buy 3 Seeburg jukeboxes. I bought 2 SMC 1's and 1 STD 4 ( Disco's and a Mardi Gras ). The pics will be attached. Since they were a bit to far from me to obtain transportation I had my brother pick them up for me. He called me from the barn they were stored in and told me the story about them. An older gentleman purchased the Mardi Gras a couple years ago with the idea of restoring it. Shortly after he found the two Disco's and purchased them with the same thought. One of these machines is nothing more than a parts machine really but there are still lots of parts inside! The one I really wanted was in decent shape and the lady even plugged it in and it started to play the record however the volume was very low. All the lights were working from what my brother could tell and he was greatly impressed as to the look of the machine. I told him to buy all three and I would see what I could do with them.
Needless to say he got all three for me for a total of $300.00 for all of them. I am very happy with that deal. The thing is I have NO EXPERIENCE with repairing or working on them. I am a member of another website where I was advised to post this hear and talk to Ron Rich who is the resident MASTER of Seeburg Jukeboxes. So then my question is this. How should I begin with either of these machines. I cannot open the Mardi Gras as the key is missing and I do not want to destroy anything. I do know that this is the heaviest machine of the three that's for sure. Should I try and part out the Disco thats basically a shell? Where do I begin? Any help and or ideas would be great. I am in desperate need of a hobby and I have always been enamored with Jukeboxes so I am hoping I can learn from these three machines. Oh did I not mention that I am currently waiting on a SMC 3 Prelude thats being restored for me. Now if only I could find a Phoenix!
Anyone that wishes to comment on my purchase please feel free to do so even if you think I got hosed on the deal. I appreciate any and all imput and I hope to meet likeminded people here who can help me in my quest to make a mate for my Prelude!
Thanks all
Wes

Your STD-4 (a.k.a. "Mardi-Gras" ) uses cabinet key # F293.

Hi Wes,
Ya found me--
About a year ago I would have thought that you "got hosed", but since we have "invented" a whole new MCU for the SMC phono's, you (and anyone else) can make them operate better then when they were new--wish I could find a barn full--
Anyway, contact me off list at: ronnnrich@yahoo.com and I'll see if I can help you-- Ron Rich
