What does the service manual say about error codes?
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.

reset ccc to default conditions. set to free play. ccc shows no errors, unit loads CD but does not spin CD. replaced mech control unit, no change. checked all plugs, replaced CD-Pro player with known good player(old player was CDM-12), no change in symptoms. still no errors on ccc.

Time to check your cables and connections.
Make sure your gettin" the correct voltage from your mech control to the cdpro input cable.
Might need to replace your ribbon cable.
Good luck
