NOS Phonograph Needles and Retipping

by juke46 » Tue Aug 23, 2016 1:32 pm

There used to be a restoration person who retipped his own phonograph needles on one of the old radio forums. He claimed very good results. I always wondered where he got the tips? I realize this is a tricky task and do not plan to try it, (well, one never really knows; I have all these NOS needles from many years ago). At this age I am lucky to get my shoes tied! I keep thinking, perhaps, retips are from NOS needles that are no longer needed since so many cartridges are unavailable. Would that be a possibility? Thank You All!

Great question---I dono--perhaps someone will--or maybe der elves in der black forest do it ?
( I have see some where it appeared that the re-tipper, cut up an inexpensive assembly and glued the "whole thing" to the original shank--but that what iit appeared to me--I have never done it) Ron Rich
