Seeburg 100 music wallbox-transformer clarification

Thks Ron. Yes I ordered the transformer from Jaycar yesterday. My wallbox also left Florida yesterday & I ordered the Player System for Wallbox Selectors. Based on Kens advice I have also ordered a metal housing in which I will include switch and inline fuse. Once I receive the components I guess it will be the matter of compiling music on the flash memory card!! Thks so much for your terrific help & coordination. Kind rgds Wayne

That last point is a bone of contention with me. For whatever reason the *hole who mods the 3W1'a for the Johnny Rockets chain removes those transformers and instead uses 28 volt lamps directly connected. That is why so many of them are turning up on E-bay. All that stupid mod does is require the use of more expensive bulbs. That along with general neglect means that most boxes in most locations here in Manhattan are dark and don't work.

Fortunately the 200's have been speared this idiot's 'genius".

Minor correction: Seeburg did away with the auto-tran in 1962 when the Consolette was introduced.

What always worries me with these type of characters is that what you can see you can agonise over and correct but it is what is not apparent that they have done which is often the real issue. I have a really important values philosophy and that is 'what I do is less important than what I leave'. Wayne

Not only does removing the autoformer cause the use of more expensive lamps--the life of the lamps they used is minimal in comparison to the correct ones, and a "shorted" lamp, or socket will blow the main WB fuse---

Hi All
I have now received the transformer from Jaycar and purchased a housing. Following Kens' recom re installing a fuse I wanted to clarify the appropriate wiring configuration. Sorry for my naivety on this issue. If it was simply a matter of connecting a 240v plug and cord to the transformer and installing an outlet 24V socket no problem. But I would like to install a lighted rocker switch (x3 terminals-I assume x2 active for switching and x1 neutral for grounding light) controlling the 240v and I wanted to confirm the fuse type (transformer carton suggests thermal fuse) & positioning of the fuse-is it the 240V or 24V side. I would really appreciate confirmation on the wiring for this setup pls and does the 24V outlet require to be 3pin to include a grounding capability. Thks & rgds Wayne

Wayne, I'm not clear on this:

x3 terminals-I assume x2 active for switching and x1 neutral for grounding light

Switches of this type should always be on the mains (240v) if that was the question.

As for the fuse, I suggest a ¼ A/Slo on the primary (240V side). That way you are protected if the primary develops a short.

Thks so much Rob. Sorry for not expressing precisely. The rocker switch with light I wish to use on the 240v side which you indicate. It has x3 terminals. I am assuming x2 are for switching the active input and x1 is to ground the light-is that correct? Thks for confirming fuse on the 240V side-again which type of fuse do you suggest-the transformer carton suggests 'thermal fuse' which I have never used. Best rgds Wayne

Wayne, a standard inline fuse holder with leads is what I use anyplace outside a closed chassis or in cases where the voltage exceeds 50V.

I can't be much help on the switch terminals, but an ohmmeter should tell the main terms and what is left would be the light return.

Not unless you notice excessive leakage current to-ground from the wallbox itself. If so, first try reversing the mains plug (if possible).

Thks Rob-much appreciated. In that case I will not ground. The mains source has active and neutral inputs which are not changeable. Well my wallbox and player system arrives next week and I am really looking forward to linking it all. I trust I do not have too much difficulty with the player system because the communication from CD Adapter seems very poor. Best rgds Wayne

I doubt you will have any problems with the CD adapter system. I deal with the owner often, and find him in different moods at times--usually "grumpy", which is why I call him "Mr.Grumpy". That being said, his products work very well, and he will usually answer any questions, not covered in the instructions--but, like many of us--his time is very full, and his words are short-- so, do yourself a favor ---please READ and follow the instructions, before, asking questions--
