RCA 4vc51 plays too fast

by theauthor » Sat Jan 24, 2009 10:06 pm

Hey, I have a RCA Victor model number 4vc51 and when I play my records, which are 33's, they seem to be playing back faster then they should. It speeds up the song just so slightly that it is noticeable and I wonder if you guys could help me adjust or point me in the right direction on what I should do.

This was a problem with RCA and VM changers with 2-pole motors. Since the motor slows down when the weight of the stack increases, they designed it so the first record plays slightly fast, and the last record plays slightly slow.

i had that same problem on my rca vfe01 with an rp211 changer.it turns out their was some rubber built up on the motor shaft
and the idler wasnt resting on the correct spot.i cleaned it off and it works just fine now, give that a try maybe?
mine was fine on every speed but 33/13 until i cleaned off the rubber residue from the old idler wheel

Yepper, those old changers were notorious for slightly fast speeds. Nothing you can do about it, it's just the way they were made..
If you're into "perfect pitch" go for a high-fidelity turntable.
The Internet is a marvelous thing, however it's not a good substitute for actually being there.
