Anyone heard from Alan Hood ("AMI-MAN" here on the forums) lately? I sent him an email two weeks ago about a Rowe R-83 Memory Unit board problem and have not heard anything from him. I'm assuming his Datex email address is still good?

I've copied and resent the email to Alan. We'll see if the message goes through to him this time.

I got Alan's reply to my email. Seems like i might have a problem with the selector logic board too.
I know I also have a problem with the amplifier too because it sounds horrible. From what I've found on it so far, the problem with the amplifier looks like it originates on the pre-amp board, maybe in IC's Z1 or Z3 (for the left channel). I've got NO output of the left channel.

Hi Ken,
If the amplifier has ic's in it must be a R-83 that was fitted with the 125 watt amplifier, make sure that DS1 & DS2 are intact the wires tend to rot off.
The Selector Logic as well has the Memory Unit has custom chips, we always ask for three main boards if testing/repairing the R-80S to R-83 boards:-
Mechanism Control
Selector Logic
Memory Unit
You do not need the Memorec or the credit board (when putting the Selector logic onto test, this acts as free play)

I was able to find Dan Colabuno (
dcolabuno@yahoo.com if anyone else needs repairs) in Lancaster, Ohio. He repairs the Rowe R80 through R83 boards. I sent him the Mech Control, Memory unit, and Selector Logic boards. I understand he found a bad custom chip in the Memory Unit and has repaired the board and everything is on the way back to me now.
As to the amplifier problem, I found chip Z1 had no output from the first amplifier. So I ordered a NE5532 conversion board which plugs into a 14 pin ic socket. These are on ebay and replace the original long obsolete RC4739DB original preamp chip.
