Greetings All, I just bought my first record player at a church garage sale. It's a G.E. model #G 909 g serial # B 26051. I was amazed that it still worked and has the most amazing sound. Does anyone have info on the year it was made or can lead me in the right direction. I would like to know more about it or similar models and possibly what it's worth. Like I said, I paid $8 for it so I'm not expecting to put it up on "antiques road show" but I'd still like to have an idea. Thanks for the help folks. Cheers!

Your console dates to 1972. What you paid for it is an indication of the value of these types of units. Just a little more searching on the web and what I'm saying can be vertified. But think of this. Someone got this big heavy thing down to a church, hopefully one doing God's work, and it goes for only $8.00! You should have rewarded their effort with at least a $20 bill. Enjoy it. You might want to replace the needle. Go to the Goodwill or similiar place buy a bunch of LP's at about 4 for
a dollar and then really soak in the fact it's not a bad deal when it's all said and done.

Personally, I never cared for those faux-finished mediterranian styles.
Or anything.... mediterranian.

Yeah, it's a bit gawdy and I'm not fond of that particular finish, but I'm still loving it.

Cabinet probably weighs a ton (LOL), and the resonance could be minimal. Inspite of itself, $8.00 isn't bad at all, and the thing actually works!

Yes, hit the Good Will and thrift stores. My favorite one has record sales several times a year, which includes 78's, 45's, Cassettes, 8-tracks and VHS tapes.

At 10 cents per record, you can stock up on box sets. Ya know, a 5-album set for 50 cents. Alot of the box sets I've bought were still wrapped in their original plastic. That's how I expanded my Classical and other genres. They offer alot of background on the pieces presented, the artists, and provide a good education.

Enjoy your GE Console, and it wouldn't probably hurt to get a new needle like Bill said, not knowing how much that thing has been played over the years. And at that age, no telling what small ailments may pop up as time passes, but folks here can give you good advice or steer you in the right direction. --BB
